Oudong Mountain “Phnom Preah reach Troap”.  An ancient city of the post- Angkorian period located in Kandal province. Consist of many archaeological findings left from Pre-Angkor, Angkor and Post-Angkorian periods such as sandstone architectural elements and artefacts resulting from the worship of Animism, Hindusim, Mahayana Buddhism, and Theravada Buddhism. Those artefacts include the laterite foundations, door set elements of the ancient temple, the statue of Nandin and Buddha on Naga, the house of Neak Ta and spirits, and an Islamic vihara. Additionally, a great Artharush Vihara and Maravijjaya Buddha are on the lower peak of the mountain. Importantly, the site contains 16 stupas of earlier Theravada Buddhist Kings and the Royal family of the Oudong period, of which 13 are on the mountain, and 3 are at the foot of the mountain. First stupa is the stunning white stupa that is a modern addition completes in 2002, knows as Preah Shakyamuni Chedi, it houses Buddha relics transferred from a stupa in Phnom Penh and thousands of Buddha statues.  This stupa dedicated to King Norodom Sihanouk. Next you will come across the stupa of two types, the “Chedi Moul” or bell-shaped stupa and the square-based, multi-level, ornate stupas known as “Chedi Trong Kreoung” type. The most impressive is the stupa of Preah Ang Doung featuring elephants around the base, ornate decoration all the way to the top with a spire topped by four faces of Brahma. Around a prayer hall, you can see old sema stones and their pedestals. and in the ground only partly exposed, an ancient pedestal. To the east of Wat Arthaross is another peak atop which is another stupa and the very special Nirvana Buddha of Oudong (Wat Preah Ang Chol Nipean), a monumental reclining Buddha statue that is fronted by a row of monks and a row of royalty. It has been restored in recent times and is another highlight of the mountain range.

Prasat Phnom Baset is situated on a terrace on the north slope of this hill. It is a rectangular brick edifice, 12 m west-east by 8.45 m north-south. It shelters a rounded granite rock, with a natural grotto, facing west. The temple also opens west. Scholars are at issue if it was vaulted with brick or covered with light material. The entrance door is framed by sandstone colonnettes and a lintel showing foliage. The outer walls are decorated with reliefs of palaces. At the East is a false door of brick. Anonymous has visited the site in 1882 and saw “sculptured debris, altars, pedestals, bas-reliefs representing Shiva on the bull Nandi, Vishnu on Garuda”. Nothing has remained. Scholars suppose that the temple was built around the middle of the 8th century. Recent constructions of Neak Ta shrines have damaged and are defacing the temple.
