Note: Lunch is not included in the tour price, so feel free to explore local eateries at your leisure.

Your first destination is the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum, a poignant reminder of Cambodia’s tumultuous past. Originally a secondary school, this site became Security Prison 21 (S-21) under the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 until 1979. Here, an estimated 20,000 individuals were imprisoned, confined within electrified barbed wire and converted classrooms that served as harrowing torture chambers. The relentless torture and coercion forced prisoners to betray family and friends, leading to even more suffering. Today, Toul Sleng stands preserved, with some rooms untouched since the Khmer Rouge’s exit in 1979. Extensive records, including haunting photographs, tell the deeply tragic stories of those who endured unimaginable horrors.

Next, immerse yourself in the splendor of the Royal Palace, built between 1866 and 1870 when King Norodom relocated the royal capital from Oudong to Phnom Penh. This magnificent complex is divided by walls into four primary areas: the Silver Pagoda, the Khemarin Palace, the Throne Hall, and the Inner Court. Walk amidst the stunning architecture and lush gardens, absorbing the regal ambiance that symbolizes Cambodia’s rich history.

Continue on to the Independence Monument, an architectural gem erected in 1958 to commemorate Cambodia’s liberation from French rule in 1953. Rising 37 meters tall, this lotus-shaped stupa stands as a proud beacon at the intersection of Norodom Boulevard and Sihanouk Boulevard. Designed by the talented architect Vann Molyvann, it seamlessly combines religious and secular elements, making it an iconic representation of national pride. During national celebrations, the monument transforms into a lively hub, adorned with floral tributes and a ceremonial flame ignited by dignitaries, inviting locals and visitors alike to celebrate Cambodia’s independence.

After an enriching day of exploration, return to your hotel for a quick refresh. Then, rendezvous with your guide in the lobby and proceed to a carefully selected restaurant that encapsulates the essence of Cambodian culture. Here, indulge in a delightful dining experience where cozy elegance meets the rich traditions of cuisine. Step into an enchanting ambiance adorned with beautiful Cambodian decor, transporting you to a world filled with warmth and hospitality. Savor an array of authentic dishes bursting with vibrant flavors and culinary heritage. Each bite is a journey through spices and influences that define this captivating cuisine, inviting you to immerse yourself in the heart of Cambodian culture. (Included in the price)

As the evening unfolds, enjoy the rest of your night, reflecting on the day’s experiences and the beauty of Phnom Penh.

Day 4  Phnom Penh, Phnom Chisor, Ta Prohm of Tonle Bati, Choeung EK, Russian Market

After a delightful breakfast, gather in the hotel lobby to meet your guide for an exciting day ahead. Get ready to embark on a journey through Cambodia’s rich history and breathtaking landscapes, starting with your first destination: Phnom Chisor.

Rising majestically 133 meters above Dok Por Village in Takeo Province, Phnom Chisor is a hill topped with an ancient temple dating back to the 11th century. Constructed from laterite and bricks, adorned with intricately carved sandstone lintels, this temple hails from the glorious Khmer Empire, a time when Brahmanism reigned. Originally named Sri Suryaparvata, or “the Mountain of the Sun,” this sacred site offers more than just a glimpse into the past; it provides a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. At the east edge of the mountain, you’ll find the perfect spot for capturing stunning photos of the expansive rice fields, dotted with hints of village life. As you gaze down, you’ll see a straight avenue connecting two outer gates—Sen Nimol and Sen Roveang temples—now transformed into a serene Buddhist sanctuary, alongside Tonle Om, the ancient baray of Phnom Chisor.

Next, we’ll head to Ta Phrom of Tonle Bati, just a 35-minute drive from Phnom Chisor. This intriguing Angkorian temple, nestled near a tranquil lake, is a charming mini-version of the more famous Ta Prohm in Siem Reap. While Ta Prohm of Tonle Bati would have once been a vibrant Hindu sanctuary, its roots date back to at least the 6th century, during the pre-Angkorian Phnom-DA period. With its structure primarily crafted from brick and laterite, the temple walls are adorned with captivating bas-reliefs illustrating timeless Hindu myths. Inside, five rooms, each housing a Lingam for Shiva worship, lead you deeper into the temple’s spiritual essence. The main sanctuary houses an original 13th-century Buddha statue, gazing East, and above the main door, you’ll discover an exquisite sandstone carving of a reclining Buddha, offering a moment of meditation and reflection.

Our next stop is a stark contrast but equally significant—Choeung Ek, also known as the Killing Fields. Situated just 17 kilometers south of Phnom Penh, this somber site once served as an orchard, now marked by the mass graves of victims of the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1979. Within this chilling memorial, over 8,895 bodies have been unearthed, and a poignant Buddhist stupa, with its acrylic glass sides, displays more than 5,000 human skulls, bearing witness to a harrowing chapter in Cambodia’s history.

After this moving visit, we’ll return to the city for a delicious lunch, included in your tour.

Once you’ve recharged, explore The Russian Market, the pulsating heart of local commerce in Phnom Penh. This vibrant market is a treasure trove of wooden handicrafts, antiques, colorful fruits and vegetables, and glimmering jewelry. Get lost amid the eclectic stalls, where you can find everything from fashionable elephant pants to the best Khmer iced coffee and tempting grilled bananas. Don’t forget to practice your bargaining skills—the art of negotiation is half the fun!

At the end of the day, retreat back to your hotel and enjoy the rest of your evening at leisure, reflecting on the historical and cultural gems you’ve uncovered. Prepare for more adventures in this enchanting country!

Day 5  Phnom Penh Departure, Kratie, Phnom Pros & Phnom Srey, Irrawady Dolphin at Kampi

On the route to Kratie, we’ll make a fascinating stop at the renowned Phnom Pros and Phnom Srey in Kampong Cham. These iconic hills, dubbed “Woman Hill” and “Man Hill,” are steeped in rich local legend. As we ascend, you’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the lush countryside and the shimmering Tonle Sap River. The charm of these hills lies not only in their stunning landscapes but also in the timeless folklore that captivates both tourists and pilgrims alike, who seek blessings for love and fertility.

Lunch is not included in the tour price, so feel free to explore local culinary delights on your own.

Continuing our journey, we will arrive in Kratie and head straight to your hotel for check-in. Take some time to relax and freshen up before embarking on an unforgettable excursion to witness the enchanting Irrawaddy dolphins at Kampi.

Board a local boat and set sail on the majestic Mekong River, where you’ll have the rare opportunity to observe the elusive Irrawaddy dolphins in their natural habitat, just 15 km north of Kratie. These freshwater dolphins, among the most endangered mammals, are a sight to behold, and the experience will undoubtedly leave you in awe of nature’s wonders.

After this incredible adventure, return to your hotel and unwind for the evening, free to explore at your leisure.

Dinner is not included in the tour price, allowing you the chance to savor local flavors at your own pace.

Day 6  Kratie, Phnom Sambok, 100 Pillar Pagoda, Wat Rokar Kandal, Local Market

After a delightful breakfast, gather in the hotel lobby to meet your guide for an insightful day of exploration. Your first stop is Phnom Sambok—a serene blend of contemporary meditation center, monastery, and ancient archaeological site nestled between Kratie and Kampi in Kratie Province.

As you ascend the mountain, you’ll discover remnants of an ancient temple interspersed with meditation huts and a prayer hall. Take the left path (west) to uncover these historical vestiges before continuing to the meditation enclaves. Alternatively, if you venture to the right (east) and scale another flight of stairs, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views and a series of stunning shrines at the summit. Here, admire a chaitya with a statue of Buddha, and don’t miss the intriguing moonstone—the lone remnant of the ancient temple—leaning elegantly against the vestibule. From this vantage point, gaze down upon a beautifully crafted prasat that reflects the ancient style, complete with a sculpture of Nandin/Preah Ko.

Next, journey to the 100 Pillar Pagoda in Sam Bor District, a mere 36 kilometers north along National Road No. 7. This remarkable pagoda, situated on the hallowed grounds of the former Royal Palace of Sam Phu Borak from the Chen La period, boasts four distinctive Buddhist temples, each oriented toward a different cardinal direction. Experience the sacredness of Vihear Lao to the west, Vihear Sar Sar-100 to the north, Vihear Kork Keut facing east, and the vestiges of Vihear Kork resting in the south.

Your adventure continues at the stunning Wat Rokar, a gem of 18th-century architecture. With its exquisitely carved wooden pillars and a tiled roof, this temple has been recently restored and serves as a vibrant crafts center during tourist seasons. Marvel at the intricate carvings on the wooden pediments and the elegant crossbeams that add character to the truss system, as well as the grand arched beams that support the roof. Don’t forget to explore the two old stupas on the temple grounds, and across the road, the newly constructed pagoda invites admiration.

Conclude your tour with a visit to the bustling Kratie Local Market, the heartbeat of the town. Here, you’ll witness locals engaging in lively commerce, from vibrant fresh produce to colorful fabrics and artisanal goods. It’s a vibrant atmosphere, overflowing with energy and the aroma of local delicacies, making it a perfect spot to soak in the daily rhythm of Kratie life.

After a day filled with exploration and cultural immersion, return to your hotel and unwind at your leisure, savoring the memories of a day well spent in the captivating heartland of Cambodia.

(Lunch and Dinner not included in tour price)

Here, time seems to slow down amid lush orchards, charming fishing and farming villages, and friendly locals who greet you with warm smiles. As you cycle along the island’s 9 km of picturesque, tree-lined paths, you’ll find yourself surrounded by undulating rice paddies, swaying palm trees, and grazing cows, all set against the backdrop of idyllic wooden stilt houses and vibrant orchards.

Take your time to explore this tranquil oasis, whether by bicycle or on foot. Visit local farms and homes to engage with residents, learn about their traditional ways of life, and, if the mood strikes, take a refreshing swim from the sandy beach on the island’s west side. Dubbed the ‘garden market,’ Koh Trong is also the perfect place to sample a delightful variety of local tropical fruits. For the Tampuan people, the lake holds significant spiritual meaning, marked by ritual offerings during planting and harvesting seasons.

On each side of the entrance path a row of 54 gods or demons is holding the sacred Naga snake.

Over 3000 inhabitants are real Khmers, their households made of wood and bamboo built on stilts of about 6m to 7m high. During dry season when the lake is low and lack of water those buildings look like the skyscrapers. At this time of the year many of villagers move out onto the lake and build a provisional stilted house. In wet season while the water level rises up again, the dwellers move back to their permanent houses on the flood plain, the stilts now hidden under the water. People made a living by catching fishes produce as well as smelly fish paste, fermented fish, smoked fish, dried fish, dried prawn etc.
